LIVELOX

Livelox is an app that can be used for two main purposes:  1)  As a safety feature -  When in an area with good cell service, a competitor running the Livelox app on his/her phone can be tracked by the event organizers.  Consequently, it is possible for the organizers to know where that person is on the course at any time.  2)  As an analysis tool - After an event ends, Livelox automatically uploads the competitor's route to a database that can be accessed by the competitor to analyze his/her route relative to what other competitors have done.  For this use, the Livelox app need not be installed the competitor's phone; other phone apps that record the track can be used  or for smart watches no app should be needed, although  with other apps the upload may not be automatic.

To get the Livelox app, you can go to the Google Play Store for the Android version or the Apple Store for the iOS version.  The Livelox app is free.  Here are links to each of these versions
