Orienteering Meet

Despite conflicting forecasts, it turned out to be a good day for orienteering, overcast with temperature about 70.  Other than a brief sprinkle, the only rain was during pickup and just before leaving.  A total of 142 people participated with 66 starts.  We almost ran out of maps for two courses but Andy hand drew a couple extras for each one.

Andy Strat was meet director/course setter.   There was only one course related problem: I screwed up and didn't get Andy's last course change to the Advanced Long (Red) course on the map.  This resulted in the first four starters on that course looking for a first control that was no longer part of the course.  We corrected that problem when Andy put the control flag out where the maps showed it.  We also subtracted 20 minutes from the times for three of the starters (reflected in the table below); the other person got a restart.  The only other complaint I heard about the courses was about the presence of poison ivy.  Unfortunately, there is not much we can do about that in Frick.  One other screwup was for five groups on the Beginner (White) course.  Each of these groups received instruction but did not make the transition from the instruction to the start table to get assigned a start time.  This resulted in five DNS results on that course.
