It was a cold, windy day, fairly typical
for March. It was somewhat unusual for Yellow Creek Lake to still
be mostly covered with ice. We were concerned that holding the first
Spring event in such weather on Easter Saturday would cause turnout to
be low. But, that was not the case; we had a very respectable 33
starts, with lots of first timers who heard about us in a wide variety
of ways. This was Al Sheaffer's second meet as director (both
at Camp Seph Mack) so he is getting to know the place very well; and he
set some interesting courses, especially the yellow and score. In
addition to Al, doing the heavy lifting were John Hartman, Jerry Agin,
and Laurie Opila on registration, Bryon Roland, Jerry Agin, Jason Gray
on pick-up and Jim Wolfe on instruction. We want to welcome Lenny
Lewis as the club's newest member. Everyone who came to the event
had a good time; we are hoping to see some of the newcomers back in the
future.
