2022 meeting. (action required)
2.
Election of Board members at Large (action required)
The current members whose terms are expiring are Sherry Shank and Lee
Bash. Sherry would like to serve another term. Lee is
willing to serve another term or to step down if someone else would
like to serve.
3. Report
on Past Year's Achievements
- 5 regular
orienteering events, one night event, one training day and two mini-rogaine events were held; the ski event was canceled..
- A map of Warriors Path State Park
was made and a permanent course was designed for it. Installation
has not yet happened. 500 additional acres were mapped for the
2024 Babcock Bog & Boulder Challenge
- 16 orienteering workshops or demonstrations
were held, only one of these was open to the public.
- All club maps that are used
for events were converted from OCAD 6 form to OCAD 18 form for use with
our recently acquired OCAD license. Minor updates were made to
the maps of the areas used for events during the year, some prior to
conversion, some after.
4. Thanks
to Event Directors (Sherry Shank, Dave Battista, Alexis Rzewski, Joe
Logan, Ryan Knecht and Jim Wolfe),
Vetters (Dave Battista, Joe Logan, Alexis Rzewski and Jim
Wolfe), Workshop
Presenters (Jen Livingston and
Jim Wolfe),
Volunteer
Coordinator (Ryan Knecht), Membership Coordinator (Sherry
Shank),
Event Coordinator (Giuseppina Mecchia), Social Media/Photographer
(Alexis Rzewski), Facebook/Instagram Connection (Naomi Jarvis),
Equipment Repairman (Ryan Knecht), and all the Event Volunteers.
5. Board Actions over the
past year
- The board approved
acquiring a 3-year 2-user license of the current version of OCAD.
The license and software were acquired in January.
- The board approved
giving away a swag item to participants in Raccoongaine and the Babcock
Bog & Boulder Challenge. Alexis Rzewski found the item for
Raccoongaine; Jim Wolfe found the item for the Babcock Bog &
Boulder Challenge. Samples will be shown to those at the meeting.
- Due to increased
costs for Raccoongaine (for food and port-o-johns) the board approved
raising the entry fee for the 2024Raccoongaine to be $20 for the 3-hour and $35 for
the 6-hour. Member discounts will still apply.
6. Financial and Membership Reports (attached)
- In addition to the usual expenses related to events ( permits,
map printing, director expenses, etc.) we did spend money on the
OCAD license, swag items, printer ink, our domain renewal, and hosting
services. By the end of the year, I expect to buy additional
plastic bags and batteries for the control boxes.
- For Discussion: What should we spend money on?
Donations to parks? Donation to Orienteering USA? T-shirts? Uniforms? Hats?
- OUSA has decided to change how fees are assessed for
rechartering member clubs for 2024, dropping the component related to club
membership and increasing the component related to starts.. I recommend
that we do not make any changes in the way we charge fees for maps and
club memberships until we see how OUSA's change affects our dues.
That is, not do anything until probably the November 2024
meeting..
- Last year, the membership approved buying 7 copies of the 2022
OUSA Annual Review to be taken to events for people to look at.
Despite the fact that we had several copies of the Review at each
event, I have not seen any significant interest in them. I recommend that we
do not buy copies of the 2023 Review; we will still probably get a few
copies free..
7. Goals for 2023
- Hold as many local events as we can, preferably 7 or 8, in addition to the mini-rogaines
and the training day.
- Hold
workshops and promotional events
for orienteering;
- Increase
club membership and volunteerism at events
8.
Call for event
directors and vetters (dates and locations to be discussed individually)
- The dates for Raccoongaine and the Babcock Bog & Boulder
Challenge are already set, March 23 and April 27, respectively.
Note: we have entered into a 10-year agreement with DCNR
and Raccoon Creek S.P. which will simplify getting approval for
Raccoongaine for the next 9 years.
- For Discussion: Should we try to have a ski-o event?
